The Mystic Within is for me the part that lives deep within us of a Higher Power that some choose to call God, Universal Energy, Cosmic Love, etc. It is the subtle wordless voice that can be heard or sensed in stillness. It can guide us to unity with ourselves and the world in the moment. In my experience it emerges to be lost again it the blink of an eye or as a thought steels the present moment by kidnapping us to the past or future. I reach my Inner Mystic through mindfulness, prayer, Intuitive Painting, Qigong, Yoga, music, chanting, rituals and spiritual meetings with other people.
I like to think about the Higher Power as a stream of constantly available energy or information that can be received by us if we tune in to its frequency. This tuning in takes many forms in different traditions and cultures. Intuitive painting is one of them. Even if the encounter with the Inner Mystic often is brief and impossible to control or plan it is worth striving for. Openness to the possibility that there is something greater, asking to receive it and patience to when the insight or experience comes has worked beautifully for me. That is why I keep coming back “searching” for it, reawakening that part of myself.
