Changing Form

Changing Form, 2017.

Golden acrylics and Mixed Media on canvas.

120 x 90 cm

This painting is one of my newest paintings that are more minimalistic, lighter and abstract. It was inspired by my 18 month old daughter saying: “Ice!” all the time on our family vacation to Montenegro. She surely wanted ice cream (and got plenty), but in my mind thoughts about materia changing form started coming up and from the contemplation on water changing form the painting arose. The ice cubes in the painting can symbolise our hardened characteristics melting away and from that compassion and vulnerability is born.

“When you open yourself to the continually changing, impermanent, dynamic nature of your own being and of reality, you increase your capacity to love and care about other people and your capacity to not be afraid. You’re able to keep your eyes open, your heart open, and your mind open. And you notice when you get caught up in prejudice, bias, and aggression. You develop an enthusiasm for no longer watering those negative seeds, from now until the day you die. And, you begin to think of your life as offering endless opportunities to start to do things differently.”
